Ever since Bwana Spoons did the "KILLERS" graphics for us, he's been bitten by the board graphic bug again and itching to start something of his own which involves skateboarding as a canvas. So he started "Bearturd". Bwana wants to make "beautiful and ridiculous skateboards representing his corny vision of the world". We say: "Ride on, Brother Spoons!". Bwana is offering some "kickstarteresque" package deals on his website which will help to finance the production of his ridiculous skateboard vision and which will make you one of the chosen few to enter into Bwanas weird world of ridicule.

In this day and age of the internet one is fast to get the impression that paper is dead because paper is slow, paper is static, paper can't be updated. So, why bother? Let me tell you why: because there's still people out there with a vision - the vision that something, like skateboarding, shouldn't be something which is just consumed and clicked upon. One guy who still holds this enthusiasm about skateboarding close to his heart and soul is New-York-based Allen Ying. Allen just released the first copy of 43 Magazine.
The size of a 12" record this magazine is well worth the paper it is printed on. 40 pages filled with great photographs of, among others, Daryl Angel, Brian Delatorre, Stevie Williams, Levi Brown by the likes of Brian Gaberman, Eric Antoine, Hendrik Herzmann, Marcel Veldman and many others and just the right amount of text. "The mission of 43 (magazine)", says Allen Ying "is to promote the inspirational skateboarding, arts, and independent thinking that exists beyond the commercial side of skateboarding." Needless to say 43 is an independent, non-profit magazine.
If you truly love something you are willing to go that extra mile - and that's what 43 Magazine is doing: taking skateboarding that Extra Mile.
43 Magazine is available internationally through the 43 Magazine Website and in Germany through Decay Dudes Distribution.

It's good to see you, Vince - and you too, Sergej.
Keep kicking tail, boys!

This is not really news - definitly not by facebook standards. "New Skateboard Graphics", a book dedicated to the artwork on skateboard decks by J. Namdev Hardisty, came out in 2009. We just forgot to tell you about it. It seems like there are a million of books about skateboard/street art on the market but this one is really well made and focuses solely on "modern" graphics. The selection of brands and graphic artists is exquisite: among others Roger Skateboards, Rasa Libre (in the Michael Leon days), Skate Mental, Girl/Chocolate, Heroin, 5Boro, Delphi Collective and, oh yeah, Hessenmob. So much eyecandy you will want to wash your eyes with toothpaste.

"New Skateboard Graphics" (ISBN 978-0-9799666-9-9) is available at Amazon. Get it now, I just saw it's half price.
